We need to understand that all humans pray and there is every assurance that their prayers will be answered because if you don’t believe in prayer in the first place why will you pray?
So if we says majority of humans pray, then what makes the difference between our prayers and theirs? In fact, some don’t even pray to God we served, while some ‘claim’ to pray to the same God we serve but do they really know that God and luckily enough some of these prayers are answered.
Now, my own question is, when it comes to prayer, what makes the difference because there must be something we should leverage on and that is meant to give us edge as a child of God on the prayer altar.
That is why James 5: 16 says Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. I repeat, the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
In other words, can we say the effectual fervent prayer of the unrighteous avails but not much but at least its avails?
The Amplified version of James 5:16b says the earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteousness makes tremendous power available (dynamic in its working), that’s the effective prayer of the righteous gives power to our prayer.
Definitely, our leverage is how effective our prayer is…
When I say effectiveness, I mean the perfect answer to that particular prayer, the power that backs up our prayer into the place delivery.
So let’s discuss two among these things…
Praying with Understanding
Let’s quickly establish this I Corinthians 14:
14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
Please follow me, if we look at the scripture contextually, we say praying in unknown tongue is only way to pray since your understanding is unfruitful, we shouldn’t waste time on what is not fruitful rather focus on what is fruitful.
Pause, let’s check I Corinthians 14: 15
15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
Please follow me, looking at this verse 15, it seems they are contradicting each other, but I tell you NO, they are not because they are not saying the same thing.
When you check verse 14, it says MY UNDERSTANDING is unfruitful but that verse 15 says WITH UNDERSTANDING, so is MY and WITH the same?
In other words, that my understanding is saying you can’t pray with common sense and have a fruitful result while with understanding is saying that, you need to add some sense to your prayer to get a fruitful result and that sense is scriptural sense!
When we says with it means “by way of something” or “through something” that means your prayer is accompany with the understanding of the scripture. For example we always want to start and end our prayer using In the name of JESUS, you know why? It not because that is how Christians use to pray rather it is because we have the understanding of the scripture where Jesus said in John 14: 13 and 14 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
In short, I’m trying to say is that upon what is your prayer based? Is it your desires, pressure, or scripture?
For example; you can’t be praying for divine direction when you are in darkness, the first thing you need to pray for is what? Light! How do you want to follow the leadings of God when you don’t know His ways? The bible says. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path – Psalm 119; 105
Verse 130 of that same chapter says The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
Just one prayer this morning, FATHER HELP ME TO PRAY IN THE LIGHT OF THE UNDERSTANDING OF YOUR WORD!
No wonder James 4:3 says Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss. Then tell me, how will you prayer be effective when you have already loose target!
