The vast outbreak of corona virus has led to the suspension of visits to hospitals and cancelled mission trips by a California mega church who are known for their faith in the power of prayers to heal the sick and raise the dead.
In an email released by the spokesperson for the Bethel Church in Redding, California Sacramento Bee, Aaron Tesauro, it was announced that health practices and precautions to the whole community are being encouraged via email communications, signage and church announcements.
The announcement made included the suspension of faith-healing hospital visits from both Bethel Church members and students at Bethel’s School of Supernatural Ministry housed in the Redding campus.
“We believe that wisdom, modern medicine, and faith are meant to work together, and express the value for each in the pursuit of continued health and healing,” the email added.
It has become a well known tradition that many of the 2,400 students at the School of Supernatural Ministry approach and pray for people in hospitals and healthcare centers.
Two Bethel students were being reported to have approached a woman on the 31st of January at the Mercy Medical Center emergency room telling her that they would pray over the people there and put Jesus in their hearts and this would heal them all.
The woman who wants her identity to be concealed said she filed a complaint with the hospital after one of the students touched her 5-year-old daughter without permission.
However, Bethel is discouraging its students from visiting healthcare centers amid the outbreak of corona virus.
The email statement also read that “Though we believe in a God who actively heals today, students are not being encouraged to visit healthcare settings at this time, and moreover, are taught that even under normal circumstances, they must receive permission from both the facility and the individual before engaging in prayer,”.
