(KJV) If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small. UNFIT Adjective
- When something or someone does not have the necessary quality or standard to meet a particular purpose.
- (of a person) not in good physical condition, typically as a result of failure to take regular exercise.
Proverbs 24:10 (selected translations)(AMP) If you are slack (careless) in the day of distress, Your strength is limited.Spiritual carelessness or slackness will rob you of your strength in God(GNB) If you are weak in a crisis, you are weak indeed. It is not just the crisis that made you weak…certain events, situations and circumstances around you must have been weakening your spiritual resolve over time. The crisis just pointed out your internal error.(MSG) If you fall to pieces in a crisis, there wasn’t much to you in the first place.(TLB) You are a poor specimen if you can’t stand the pressure of adversity. Not all specimen are poor by nature. Some specimen like iron/metal are made of strong quality with plenty of uses. But a consistent exposure to oxygen and water/air moisture weakens its strength by forming a reddish-brown oxide. Is oxygen bad naturally? No.Is moisture bad naturally? No.But when iron is exposed in deep proportions to these 2 elements…it is stripped of its strength. There are certain things that may be good for others…but that combination will rob you of your spiritual strength and joy.It is possible to become spiritually unfit. God didn’t create you to be so. It is usually the things you choose to be exposed to that weaken your internal configuration spiritually.Fitness (God’s perspective)It is impossible to accurately define fitness without taking a look at The Bible to see if God has anything to say about this subject matter.Does God really care if I am fit or not?We will apply the law of the first mentionThe law of the first mention is a guideline that some people use for studying Scripture. The law of the first mention says that to understand a particular word or doctrine, we must find the first place in Scripture that word or doctrine is revealed and study that passage.Let see…Lev 16:21-26(Lev 16:21 KJV) And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:(Lev 16:26 KJV) And he that let go the goat for the scapegoat shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward come into the camp.OverviewThere are only 2 characters important in this passage an I believe that both of them are important to God.The High Priest – Likened to the Pastor, spiritual leader etc. His role is clearly spelt out.The Fit Man – Unknown, undescribed by name or title…Even though this person does not hold a title, his role and assignment is important to God. If the High Priest finishes his job and this guy does not “show” – The whole nation is in trouble!!!That’s why God was then very specific that He must go through the same process of cleansing that the High Priest must go through. Some of you cannot understand why God is not allowing you to “enjoy” life the way others like you are enjoying…You can’t understand why the Holy Spirit is stressing you to pray, study the word, be spiritually alert etc.It is because you carry a National assignment! Some of you…your assignmenet and purpose in life is not local…it is GLOBAL.That is why you must respond to the call to intimacy with God and become a fit man.Why is the “fit man” nameless & faceless? because even though the role is specific, anyone can take up the responsibility.Fit man (Lev 16:21 Translations)AMP – a man who is prepared [for the task]AMPC – a man who is timely (ready, fit)…this man understands the principle of time managementGNB – someone appointed (TLB) appointed for the taskThe consistency of your appointment with God will save you from the disappointment of men.John 2:24-25 AMP-GNB-GW-TLB-MSG-TPTMSG – Standing by and readyGod needs men who do not have titles but who are willing to serve God by their fitness & readiness…in removing negativity from the camp. They don’t spread negativity….they lead by ensuring negativity is not found within the camp. This role is not for the faint-heartedThe same cleansing that is required by the High Priest…is required for this fit man.Ephesians 5:26(KJV) That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,(MSG) Christ’s love makes the church whole. His words evoke her beauty. Everything he does and says is designed to bring the best out of her,(TPT) to make us holy and pure, cleansing us through the showering of the pure water of the Word of God.Still On God’s Perspective On Fitness(1Ch 7:11 KJV) All these the sons of Jediael, by the heads of their fathers, mighty men of valour, were seventeen thousand and two hundred soldiers, fit to go out for war and battle.(1Ch 12:8 KJV) And of the Gadites there separated themselves unto David into the hold to the wilderness men of might, and men of war fit for the battle, that could handle shield and buckler, whose faces were like the faces of lions, and were as swift as the roes upon the mountains; Why Do I Need to be Spiritually Fit
- Your purpose in life demands it. Jesus had to be a carpenter’s son for a very specific reason. He learnt to carry wood because one day He would be carrying a cross and he would pass through the very streets where He usually would pass as a carpenter’s apprentice.
- Your fitness is an indication of where you are going…not where you are coming from
- The beauty of who you are and who you will become is manifested in your daily spiritual fitness routine.
How Can I be Spiritually Fit?
- Live a Life of Intimacy with God. Live from a consciousness that you carry Him everywhere you go. From this one point, a life of prayer, studying the Word, fasting and consecration, holiness etc will follow automatically.
- Find people to impact and destinies to affect. Your life must be an ointment poured forth.
- Read!! Keep abreast of your world and your calling. How do you fit into God’s agenda on earth? Daniel understood by books…in this day and age, there are many platforms you can learn from and understand apart from books.
- Understand God’s voice to you as a person….and yield to it.
Causes of Spiritual Unfitness
- Sheer Laziness
- Indecent exposure to what God does not allow for you as a person.
- Disobedience to personal instruction. The story of the young prophet & the old prophet.
F.I.T (Finding Inner Treasure)2 Corinthians 4:7(KJV) But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.(CEV) We are like clay jars in which this treasure is stored. The real power comes from God and not from us.(MSG) If you only look at us, you might well miss the brightness. We carry this precious Message around in the unadorned clay pots of our ordinary lives. That’s to prevent anyone from confusing God’s incomparable power with us.(TLB) But this precious treasure—this light and power that now shine within us—is held in a perishable container, that is, in our weak bodies. Everyone can see that the glorious power within must be from God and is not our own.(TPT) We are like common clay jars that carry this glorious treasure within so that the extraordinary overflow of power will be seen as God’s, not ours. When you connect to and find your inner treasure, your weakness will lose its grip on you.Download the full compilation of all sessions of Peniel’20 Here.
