“TOUCHING THE HEM OF THE GARMENT FROM BEHIND”

Mike Bamiloye

Mark 5:24-29 KJV
[24] And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.
[25] And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,

[26] And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,
[27] When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
[28] For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.

[29]And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

Many years ago, when our ministry was about a year or two old. I was worried and scared of the future of the ministry the Lord has called us into. I was worried of surviving in it. I was worried about when we all began to get married and how our families with children would survive a ministry that had no means of income but “whatever is set before you” and “whatever you are given”.I was extremely worried of how we would feed and educate our future children.

So, I had an habit at the time. I used to read a lot of the books and magazine of those father’s in the Lord who were white men. Their lives always fascinate me. I used to go about with their books, reading and digesting them, following up their stories.

Those men of God were KENNETH Hagins and Oral Roberts. I used to read of their faith and their great exploits. I used to read of their ministerial adventures and would sit down on the floor looking at the pictures in their magazines. I would stay for long flipping through the pages of their magazine, staring at their family and ministry events pictures. I was inspired by their beauty. I was baffled by the joy on their faces. And I would begin to pray that the Lord would show me the way how my ministry too could be as prosperous as theirs.

Then one day, as I sat down reading the magazine and staring at the colorful pictures of various program event and the pictures of their various members of the staff and family of Kenenth Hagins ministry, I was overwhelmed. I had not seen any prosperous ministry all around me. All I had seen were examples of struggling and crawling ministries and ministers we looked up to who would not give us any assurance of a glorious future. Then, how were these white ministers succeeding? What was the secret of their success in the ministry? These were all the prayers I was praying with tears as I faced the uncertain future of my two year old young ministry. In desperation, I began to cry on the floor and I was saying:

“God, you must have been partial with these White Men ministries….How come I have not been seeing any ministries around me with such happy faces and great ministerial exploits? You must show me the secrets of their success…”

I was in this despondent mood when I heard the voice of God deep down in my spirit: “Their secret is FAITH….They work with Me by Faith”
That was when I made the determination to walk with God by Faith. I entered into a covenant with God, on behalf of my young ministry. Covenant of Faith…Covenant of Faith and Obedience…unto God. There and then, God changed the name of our ministry from “Mount Zion Christian Productions” to “Mount Zion Faith Ministries” And that principle of Faith has been carrying us on since then.

I never saw KENNETH Hagins or Oral Roberts, but their ministry had impacted my ministry and my Faith. They never laid their hands on me. I never “tapped anointing” from them by touching them, as some people usually do nowadays. I never sat under their ministrations. But only read their books and magazines, inspired by their stories of Faith and encouraged by the various pictures of their programs and ministry members. And I remember that when I got engaged to my wife a year later, we both continued in this attitude of “touching the Hem of their garments” from behind, and some virtues were flowing down to us…..Virtues of Faith and Strong Determination to live in Obedience to the Word of God.

In the passage above, Mark 5, Jairus insisted Jesus Christ should come into his house to pray for his dying daughter. Jesus was walking amidst a large crowd to go to the house of Jairus. So his daughter would not be healed until Jesus got into his house. That was the level of his faith. As Jesus was going, a woman had come from behind, who never desired that Jesus would come to her house or touch her. She never even desired that Jesus would lay His hand on her head to tap this healing she was looking for. Her faith was in JUST TOUCHING THE HEM OF HIS GARMENT.

MARK 5:28
For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
There were people who were pushing and thronging Jesus, they never tapped the power and anointing of the Lord, but a Woman who came by Faith to touch His cloth from behind got a change of life. I had heard of people who had been anointed with healing while hooking their faith to the man of God praying on radio or Television. I had heard of people who got delivered as they touched the power of God while reading some Men of God’s Books. I had heard of people who got healing and deliverance as they watch a movie.

When the popular Tele-Drama of 1993, “AGBARA-NLA” was running on the television, there was a climaxing point of the movie, where Isawuru, the witch-doctor was arrested by the power of Jesus and began to pull down and destroy all the devilish hangings in his power room. There was the story of a Herbalist Witch-Doctor who also almost at the same time, also began to pull down the evil hangings in his strong evil rooms as he watched that particular scene running on the television. That is “touching the Hem of His Garment” from behind, by Faith.

It takes faith to touch the Hem of His Garment. It takes Faith to be empowered and endued from the testimonies or write-ups or movies or music or books of Anointed ministers.

THINK ABOUT THIS:
PEOPLE WHO WERE PUSHING AND HOLDING THE BODY OF JESUS NEVER GOT THE LORD’S ATTENTION NEITHER DID THEY DRAW ANY VIRTUES FROM HIM, BUT A WOMAN WHO, BY FAITH, JUST TOUCHED THE HEM OF HIS GARMENT.

Mark 5:34 KJV
And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
Do you watch some movies and listen to some inspiring music to be Touched and Blessed or you look out for the errors therein to criticize? Do you listen to some Godly men of God on Television and Radio to be impacted and empowered or you despise whatever they are saying because they belong to another class of denominations?

Is it until you “tap the anointing” from an anointed man of God that you believe you could be impacted and blessed or you believe, by faith, you can touch the Hem of their garment from afar?
THINK ABOUT IT.

Can you recollect anytime you too had touched the Hem of the Garment of Jesus from behind?“TOUCHING THE HEM OF THE GARMENT FROM BEHIND”
